THER - 80 ARTEMETHER 80mg/ml
Composition: Each 1ml of the ampoule contains Artemether 80mg
THERAPEUTIC CLASS
Antimalarial.
PROPERTIES
Activity linked to the destruction of asexual erythrocyte forms of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. Destroys plasmedia by inhibiting protein synthesis during the growth of trophozoites. There is no cross-resistance with other antimalarials.
INDICATIONS
Infection by Plasmodium falciparum or malaria infection resistant to other antimalarial drugs. Would be as effective as IV quinine in children and adults.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to the substance, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Pregnancy artemether is embryolethal in animals, its use in pregnant women is therefore contraindicated except in cases of vital necessity (neuropalaria) where the doctor will make his decision based on the context.
Breastfeeding As no data are available to date on the passage of artemether into breast milk, breast-feeding should not be recommended for the duration of treatment.
DOSAGE
Treatment over 5 days by intramuscular route:
- Adult: 160mg in 2 injections on the first day, then 90mg in 1 injection every day for 4 days.
- Child: 3.2 mg/kg in 2 injections on the 1st day followed by 1.6 mg/kg in 1 injection/day for 4 days Treatment over three days by intramuscular injection:
-Aduite 160mg in 2 injections per day for 3 days
-Child: 3.2 mg/kg in 2 injections per day for 3 days
